Six business websites in Ciudad Real — olive mills, wineries, a clinic — measured on 27 August 2026. Again: six is not a representative sample, and we say so before the numbers.
But one result repeated so often it deserves a whole article.
Five of the six show no image when the link is shared
Paste those addresses into WhatsApp, Facebook or LinkedIn and no photo with a title appears: a grey rectangle shows up with the address in small type.
It is the most repeated fault of everything we measured and, by a distance, the cheapest to fix. Two tags in the code and one image. Half an hour of work.
Why it matters more here than elsewhere
A business in a small city lives on word of mouth, and word of mouth today is literally forwarding a link on WhatsApp. Someone recommends the olive mill to a relative and sends them the site. What the relative sees is a grey rectangle.
It is not a technical problem: it is the digital equivalent of handing over a creased business card.
The other numbers
The average score was 52 points
The highest of the three studies we have run. Higher is worse. Four of the six came in above 49.
One weighed 2.5 MB
Almost all uncompressed photos. On mobile data that is slow and eats into the visitor's plan.
Two showed signs of going untouched for years
Old copyright year, technology more than a decade old. On a business that is perfectly active, it signals the opposite.
None of these faults is expensive to fix. What is expensive is not knowing they are there, because none of them is visible from the owner's own computer.
What this does not mean
It does not mean these are bad businesses or bad websites. Several are well designed and the investment clearly happened. It means the site was built once, it worked, and nobody has looked at it again with a measuring tool in hand.
How to check yours
The tool we used is public and free, with no sign-up. And if the problem turns out to be the share image, we also have a generator that hands you the details ready to paste.
